Photochemical And Photophysical Properties Of Some Sulfur-Containing Drugs
S.A.Azim, E.M.EL-Gharabawy, M.A.EL-Ries
The photophysical properties and photoreactivity of some sulfur-containing drugs were investigated in different media. The electronic absorption and emission spectra are little affected by solvent polarity indicating that the sulfur-containing drugs have the same dipole moment in ground and singlet excited states. The investigated drugs show a relatively low fluorescence quantum yield due to the role of –SO2, -NH and keto groups in deactivation of singlet excited state and triplet state population. On the other hand, the fluoresence quantum yield increases by increasing the midium viscosity. The photostability of these drugs were studied in different solvents including halomethane solvents.
